(Thai Ancient Massage, Thai Yoga Massage, Thai Classical Massage, Thai Bodywork)
Originally known as the Traditional Thai massage, it is a type of massage that uses ‘thai’ styles which involves stretching and deep massages. Brought by a contemporary of Buddha named Jivaka Kumar Baccha over 2000 years ago, its Thai term is “Nuat phaen boran” (nuat- massage; phaen-manner; boran-ancient.) and it comes in different variations and techniques. It is also called as the Yoga massage because of its Yoga-like positions that it involves in the session.
One thing that makes Thai massage unique from other forms of massage therapy is that it does not use oil or lotion and so, clients are treated fully-clothed and usually laid down on a mat on the floor. During the treatment, therapists use their hands, arms, knees, feet and apply pressure by shaking, rocking the body, tapping, and stretching using yoga positions. Thai massage is about guiding the mind, body, and spirit to create balance and harmony that leads to self-healing.
